School Cross Country

We had a beautiful day for the School Cross Country. It was a tough course this year and we all pushed ourselves to achieve our different goals. Some of us set out to win, some of us wanted to qualify for cluster, some of us wanted to do better than last year, others wanted to do it non-stop and for some of us our goal was to complete it. Most of us achieved our goal. We learnt that you don't have to win the race to succeed, however it is great to want to!

This year the first, second and third place getters were presented with ribbons. Harry O'Dea from our class came 1st in the Year 6 Boys and Erin Conway from our class came 1st in the Year 6 girls. Emily Green, Hannah McKinnon, Wade Gore, Alex Cameron,Jonny Miller and Angus Bigham all qualified to compete at the East Cluster Competition. Way to go Room 16.

Young Einsteins Competition
Posted by techkids on Wednesday, 1 July 2009

Last week we went to The Young Einstein’s Competition. It was at Matua School – the team was: Erin Conway, Haley Palmer, Luke Maxwell and Matthew Cooney.

As we were driving to Matua in Luke’s mum Megan’s car we were practising general knowledge with some flash cards form a game in Luke’s car.

When we arrived we walked through the school to the hall - we went in and sat down at the table with our team name. We were Bethlehem One and the year fives were Bethlehem Two.

We were at the very back and the year fives were at the very front. As we sat down a man told us our instructions “in front of you there are nine sheets of paper, one for each round. You will need a writer - they will write the answers on the sheets” he said. “Each table has a runner who will take and bring things you need” he said. And the runner brought the pencil and the joker over. The joker was a card and if you played it for a round it doubled the points.

The first round was general and we played our joker I told them not to but we still did. The questions were really weird though for example one was about how many McDonalds were in the Mt maunganui and Tauranga area so we didn’t do very well that round, but because of the joker we got twelve points and we were winning. The next six rounds were all boring but then at the seventh round it was really close - it was us then Otumoetai, then Matua. Then in the seventh round Otumoetai played their joker and they took the lead. But in the eighth round Matua played their joker and they took second place and that was the last round.

So in the end Otumoetai came first, then Matua, then it was us the last team to progress to the Western Bays. So we were happy in the end but a little annoyed. Hopefully we will do better at Western Bays. It was really fun.
