School Gala 2010
Posted by techkids on Wednesday, 2 June 2010

Gala Food

On the 23rd of May Bethlehem School had its annual Gala and Cow Dump.

There were many different food stalls at the gala such as the Curry and Rice, Hot Beef sandwiches, Nachos, The Cafe, Waffles, Hot Dogs, fizzy drinks, Lollies, Hangi, Candy Floss & Popcorn, and also “Decorate your own Cup Cake” and a Fantastic Cake Stall. Many of these were sold and tasted absolutely delicious.

It was a wonderful day overall and we raised a lot of money for our School. The popcorn and candy floss was a delicious sweet treat. The fizzy drinks were a zingy beverage. At the cake stall there were toffee apples and delicious home baked goods. But if you enjoy a spicy meal the nachos would’ve been your place to go. If you like breakfast for lunch then you should’ve gone to the waffle stand. The sausage sizzle or Hot Beef sandwiches were the perfect things to warm your belly. At the curry and rice if you didn’t like meat you could get a vegetarian curry. The hangi was warm and yummy. The hot dogs were a delicious meaty American treat. The cafe was where you could get a coffee or tea with a muffin or sausage roll - so in other words a warm treat.

School Gala - Lots to Win! on PhotoPeach

Gala Games

On 23 May Bethlehem School’s gala took place. There were lots of fun games .
There was a dartboard throw - you had to throw a dart at a envelope on a board and if you hit it, when you open it, it says if you have won something or if you have won money.
There was a treasure hunt in our sandpit, you had to look for milk bottle lids, if you got a dark blue lid you got a lolly but if you got a light blue lid you got a prize.
There was also the lucky lollipops, were you had to pull a lollipop out of a box and if it had a red sticker on the bottom then you could win a prize, and you got the lollipop too!, but if it did not have a sticker on it then you only got the lollipop.
Room 14 held a game where there was a big black canvas with painted circles which were red, green and yellow. You had to throw a beanbag whilst having a blindfold on and if it landed on green or red you got a lolly but if it landed on yellow you got a prize.
There was spin art where there was a machine with three compartments in it then they clipped a piece of paper on to a platform which was in the machine and they turned the machine on. Whilst it was spinning you had paint and squirted it into the machine, which made a remarkable piece of paper which had paint splattered on it.
There was SPLAT THE RAT! This was a pretty hard game because there was a pipe and they threw a rat soft toy down it and you had to try and hit it as fast as you can against a board and if you did you got your money back and a lolly but if you did not you still got a lolly which is a pretty good deal.
There was also a balloon pop where you had a sharp pencil which you popped a balloon with and a little piece of paper with a little dot which could be one of three colours green, red, blue. If you got a blue then you got a lolly but if you got red or green then you got a prize.
There was also a fishing game which was lots of plastic fishes in a tub and you got a wood fishing line with a big magnet on the bottom which you picked a fish from the tub and if it said WIN then you got a lolly but if it said LOSE then you got nothing.
There was also the gumboot throw with a competition to see who could throw the gumboot the furtherest!
And then the chocolate toss where you got a quoit and had to throw it on sticks with a chocolate on it – if you got the quiot over the stick you won the chocolate. All the games were under 3 dollars and they were heaps of fun.

Bethlehem Idol

The Mini Gagas take it all!
The Bethlehem Idol is run every year by Room 17. Year Four and up can enter. The Audition process is definately the hardest, but the Mini Gagas went though it all!

The auditions take place at school during the lunch hours in the two weeks prior to the Gala. For the Semi Finals, the School had to vote by putting in their money that they had brought along. You voted with your money! After the Semi-finals only 6 Acts remained – the Final - to be on Gala day in front of all the crowds!

Gala Day arrives! Everyone flooded into the Hall at 12:30 and all the contestants came in as well like Pianika, Connie-Pearl, Rosie, Isa, Sophie, Hayes, Liam, Sam, Blake, Jordan, Kyle, Brodie and Titoah.
Up first was Rosie, Isa and Sophie with a Lip Syncing Dance to Abba Does Your Mother Know. Then up hopped Pianika and sang The Climb by Miley Cyrus. After Pianika was the Mini Gagas, Suzanna, Holly and Amy doing their dance to Lady Gaga and Beyonce Telephone. Following the Mini Gagas was Connie-Pearl singing her own song Always Together. Then Hayes, Liam, Sam, Blake and Jordan performed a skit. Lastly, was Kyle, Brodie and Titoah did a Dance to “Beat It” by Michael Jackson.

Then at 2:00 they announced the winners. 3rd went to Rosie, Isa and Sophie with their Lip Sync. 2nd was Kyle, Brodie and Titoah. 1st place went to the Mini Gagas.

Thank you to all those who voted.
