Rugby League Tournament
Posted by techkids on Friday, 3 September 2010

On Wednesday the 1st of September the Rugby League Tournament was held. Bethlehem Primary entered two teams. This was the first time Bethlehem had entered this tournament in a while. The teams had their strengths and weaknesses but their lack of tackling was the thing that really let them down. With both teams only winning one game the placing weren’t very high, but it was a great experience for all of us that participated. The players of the days were Angus L, Christian, Timothy and Liam C.

Senior Syndicate East Cluster Sevens Tournament
Posted by techkids on Friday, 3 September 2010

Hockey Sevens

On Tuesday 31st  August, the East Cluster Sevens was held at T.G.A. Hockey Centre, Blake Park, Mount Maunganui. We had 2 teams enter from Bethlehem – a Yr5 and a Yr5/6.

First the year 5 team played and the year 5/6 team then played after them. We had so much fun there, and we got a lollypop for all our hard work, practising, waiting and playing. We got the bus there and back. Everyone that was playing in a sevens team from our school was on the bus, so it wasn’t very enjoyable because it was so squashed, but we had a really fun time though.

Unfortunately we didn’t get a placing but we did try our best. I’d like to thank all the parents that came to cheer us on, but the biggest thanks goes to our wonderful coach who has helped us though everything, Miss Cox!

Soccer Sevens
On the 31st of August it was East Cluster Soccer Sevens. It was held at Fergusson Park. The year 6 teams that played this sport are: Bethlehem (the best!!), Otumoetai, Pillans point, Matua and Bellevue. Brookfield played in the year 5’s but didn’t have a year 6 team. Our team did really well and wasted Bellevue 5-0 and Pillans point an amazing 7-0! Sadly against Matua we lost 1-0 because the ref didn’t give us one of our goals. We lost against Otumoetai 1-0 but after losing to them we found out that last year they won East Cluster and Western Bay. In the end the result was:
1st: Otumoetai
2nd: Matua
3rd: Bethlehem

Posted by techkids on Friday, 18 June 2010

On Friday 18th June the Junior Syndicate held their croos-country in St.Michaels subdivision - on the paper road around the grassy track.
The weather held and it seemed like the contestants were having fun! There was huge support from parents and extended families who turned out in force to cheer on their future sports personalities.
Well Done to all the participants - especially those who completed their first ever cross-country event! Here are a few photos from the day.

Rippa Rugby World Cup 2010
Posted by techkids on Friday, 18 June 2010

Rippa Rugby World Cup – Blake Park Friday 4th June
We were fortunate to get our school into this popular tournament; there were limited spaces and many schools who missed out. Coaching sessions were arranged through the BOP Rugby Union in May & April for approx. 70 children who were interested in learning to play rippa rugby. The children thoroughly enjoyed these sessions and most continued on to trial for the tournament teams. Unfortunately only 10 players per team could be selected and this proved to be an extremely difficult task.
Michelle Bond volunteered her time to help select, manage and coach the Yr 5/6 team and this was greatly
appreciated. A number of parents also provided transport on the day and stayed on to support or help coach our Yr 3/4 team.
Our year 3/4 team hadn’t lost a game and got through to the championship quarter-finals. Our year 5/6 team
getting knocked out in their semi final which was a terrific achievement and we can be very proud of our
children for the skill levels and the sportsmanship that they displayed.

East Cluster Cross-Country
Posted by techkids on Friday, 11 June 2010

On the 9th of June 2009 Bethlehem School sent their East Cluster cross country team to Waipuna Park in Welcome Bay to compete in the cross country competition.

With the year four girls competing first the school was totally impressed with the first place getter Abby Mortimer from Bethlehem Primary, congrats Abby. Next we had the year four boys with second place for Bethlehem Primary. After that were the year five girls with a 5th placing. Next were the year five boys with 7th place going to us. Soon afterwards were the year 6 girls taking second place. Lastly we had the year six boys with Deon Hunter grabbing first place, congrats Deon.

With five schools competing at the East Cluster competition it was a nail biting experience but when the final results were announced Otumoetai Primary came in 3rd place, Bethlehem Primary came in 2nd close behind the winning school Matua Primary. Congratulations Bethlehem on 2nd place, a new school record.

All the participants had to take on the gut buster (a really steep hill) as well as climbing over stiles and running against the icy wind! So well done to all our participants.

The Western Bay qualifiers are as follows:
Year 4 girls: Abby Mortimer
Year four boys: Ben Burnett, Cole Davy and Logan Mc Kinnon
Year 5 girls: Caitlin Hoskin
Year 5 boys: Jamie Shields
Year 6 girls: Rosie Sussex
Year 6 boys: Deon Hunter and Rowan Martin

This takes place in a couple of weeks – go Bethlehem!
